CHOGM '07 COUNTDOWN

There's so much going on, but we've got it all covered...
 INTERNET ACCESS
With over 10 Internet Service Providers, Uganda is fairly well covered in terms of internet access, at least in the major towns. However, internet bandwidth remains low for most providers. Most ISPs offer speeds ranging from 28kbps to 512kbps. Broadband is also available, but limited in supply. Access to the internet is available from most commercial buildings but more easily from internet cafes.

Costs of accessing internet
Inetrnet access in internet cafes is affordable, usually going for about $0.5 an hour. Internet access is billed per minute in internet cafes, and these charges in Kampala city are as low as 25 Shillings (less than 0.05 dollars) per minute. Internet cafes can be found in every corner of the city, from the central business district to the surburbs.

Access up country is not as easy, with internet cafes fewer, costs higher, and speeds lower. Costs of accessing the internet in a cafe up country can be as much as ten times those in the capital.

Internet connectivity; options
You don't have to use a cafe though, as there a few hotels that provide internet access in their rooms, while some ISPs offer private access via modem or broadband. Connectivity costs range from $30 to $700 a month. If on the move, you could opt for GPRS and access the internet off your mobile phone or laptop.
