MAJOR
TOWNS | LIRA
Lira
is the third-largest town in Uganda, with a population
of 80,879 (2002 census). It is the commercial and administrative
centre of Lira District in the Northern Region of the
country.
Lira is no quiet town; it has life, which is demonstrated
by the loud music that welcomes you to the town that has
seen a high influx of child refuges from the LRA war.
To get there, you would have to use buses that tread the
Kampala- Karuma route. Lira is en-route to Kidepo Valley
National Park via the Labwor Hills.
Agriculture is one of the main activities in this town.
