MAJOR
TOWNS | MUKONO
Mukono,
located in the central part of Uganda is associated with
agriculture. It is one of the districts that thrived during
the vanilla. Like other Ugandan districts, it is named
after its chief town - Mukono town. It has links to the
English town Guildford. The town shares borders with Jinja
in the east, Kayunga in the south, Luweero in the northwest,
Kampala and Wakiso in the southwest, and Lake Victoria
in the south.
It is a leading force in the industrialisation of the
country not forgetting that it produces some of the best
brains in the country through its academic institutions.
Uganda Christian University, Nile Breweries, Nytil Textile
Industries, SCOUL sugar cane plantation, and Kasuku Tea
Estates make up just some of Mukono’s extensive
industrial sector.
There are extensive industrial parks set up, vast fertile
soils that have become major tea and sugarcane growing
areas in Kasaku, Luwala and Salama estates as well as
the Sugar Cooperation of Uganda Limited at Lugazi. The
district also flourishes under a rich tropical climate
and vegetation.
In Mukono are a number of attractions like the Mabira
tropical forests, as well as the legendary Sezibwa falls.
