 SHOPPING
Kampala city offers shpping options ranging from cheap to affordable, and expensive. There are a few world class malls, notably Garden City and the Game store. All the malls are easily accessible even for one using public means of transport.

Garden City
Located on Yusuf Lule, the mall houses the Uchumi supermarket. It is a five minute drive from the city center. Garden City also offers services ranging from banking to telephony, couture to pharmaceuticals. It boasts ample and secure parking, and also has several restaurants as well as a cinema.
Open: Monday to Sunday, 8a.m. to 1a.m. weekdays (open up to 2p.m on weekends).

Shoprite, Ben Kiwanuka
Shoprite is part of the chain of the South Africa Shoprite shopping malls and offers all services. It is located at the Clock Tower junction in the city center. It's parking can be tricky at times, but it still remains the place to go to for fresh food as well as groceries.
Open: Monday to Sunday, 8am to 8pm weekdays (open up to 2p.m on weekends).

Game Store, Lugogo
Located along Jinja road, Game is a 5-minute drive from the city center. The local branch of the South African-based Game stores, the mall that offers services ranging to banking to telephony and groceries. The mall has spacious parking and and secure parking, as well as a number of high class restaurants.
Open: Monday to Sunday, 9am – 8pm

Metro Cash and Carry
It is a 10 minutes drive from the city center, located on the roadside of the Jinja road in Nakawa. It offers a wide range of sevices, from foodstuffs to eelctronics. Situated on a huge chunk of land, Metro has a spacious parking yard.
Open: Monday to Sunday, 8am to 10pm weekdays (open up to 2p.m on weekends).

Nakasero Market
An old-fashioned city center market, it is the place to get yourself quality foodstuffs if shopping on a tight budget. It does not have proper parking and you have to take special care of your purse as it is prone to thugs. It is open daily, and the vendors do not retire until about 8p.m.

St. Balikuddembe Market, Owino
Like the Nakasero market, St Balikudembe commonly known as Owino is a downtown shopping center that deals in almost all local foodstuffs, and used (second-hand) goods. The market, arguably the biggest in the East African region harbors over 50,000 people. It is famed for its wide variety of second hand clothes, as it is for pickpockets. It is possible to shop with a shoestring budget here.

Pioneer Mall
The first mall in the country, the Pioneer Mall makes up for all it lacks in parking space with its wide variety of goods, ranging from clothes to jewellery and shoes. It does have it's fair share of phone shops too; it might be a good place to start when looking for a mobile phone. The items on sale can be categorised as affordable.
