Offers mobile and fixed land lines telephone services.
It is has been in the local operation for the last 10
years. It covers virtually the entire country as well
as the great lakes region. Local call tariffs range between
Shs250 (0.2 dollars) and Shs500 (0.45 dollars) per minute.
Cross border call rates have been minimised since the
regional integration, as they do not change irrespective
of where one is. International calls go for Shs800 (0.6
dollars) upwards. Calls can also be made off public phone
located at various points nationwide. It has over a million
subscribers in the country. Airtime (calling) cards start
from Shs.1000 ($1.1).
Uganda Telecom
Offers:
Mobile phone & Landline
It is the pioneer telecommunications company in the country.
Provides both the mobile and land line services. Its nationwide
coverage is average though they have ensured that they
commit funds to take it to every one in the country. Its
local calls range between Shs300 (0.25 dollars) to Shs500
(0.45 dollars) and like their counterparts in business,
they have ensured that one needn’t have to change
a card when in the East African countries. Its international
rates range from Shs700 (0.55 dollars) upwards. It has
close to a million subscribers country over. Airtime (calling)
cards start from Shs.1000 ($0.6).
Celtel
Offers:
Mobile phone only
Its regional connections have ensured that Celtel grows
big and bigger. It has teamed up with the different telecommunications
networks to ease on the burden of the people who cross
to other territories either on business or official trips.
That move does not stop here but going to the entire continent.
Its fares though on a high, range between Shs400 (0.35)
to Shs500 (0.4 dollars). Its international fares go for
a minimum of Shs1000 (0.6 dollars). Also almost ten years
in local service, Celtel boast of about a million subscribers.
Airtime (calling) cards start from Shs.1000 ($0.6).
TalkTelecom
Offers:
International calling services
Provides international calling services. Talk Telecom
uses a calling-card based solutions, and cards are available
at major supermarkets and at selected service stations.
Cards cost from Shs. 5,000 ($3).
